About Ohashi Bridge
The beautiful scenery of the Hakkōda Mountains can be admired from Japan's premier arch bridge.
Details
Located within the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, the bridge spans the Shirokura Valley and is part of the National Route 394 bypass. It has a total length of approximately 360 meters, with a main span of about 255 meters, making it one of Japan's premier large arch bridges. With a height of 122 meters, the view overlooking the Shirokura Valley is spectacular.
From the bridge, one can enjoy distant views of the Hakkoda Mountains, Mount Iwaki, and Aomori City, along with the unique beauty of the changing seasons. There are vibrant greens in summer, snowy landscapes in winter, and the breathtaking autumn foliage that should not be missed. The panoramic view of the mountains adorned with brilliant reds and yellows is truly breathtaking.
The rocky cliffs of the stream are composed of columnar jointed quartz andesite, formed about 10 million years ago during volcanic activity in the mid-Miocene epoch. The stream is highly acidic and devoid of fish. The untouched natural scenery, with its geographical environment seemingly keeping life at bay, captivates visitors.
On both sides of the bridge, there are parking areas and rest zones, making it an ideal spot to take a break and enjoy the scenery during a drive.
