About Oiganshan Park
A place renowned for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, it is also a recreational area for the people of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Details
Located on the right side of the Enokigawa River flowing through Sakaiminato City in Hiroshima Prefecture, this comprehensive park is known as Oganeyama since the time of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's vassal, the loyal retainer Okazaki Masakatsu, who entered the castle. The entire park resembles a small mountain, and from the observation deck, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the cityscape of Sakaiminato.
The park is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves, attracting large crowds of sightseers during these seasons. In spring, around 600 cherry trees bloom, including varieties such as Somei Yoshino, Yaezakura, and Edo Higan, adorning the park with their lovely pink hues, with the blooming season lasting until late April. During the autumn foliage season, 800 maple trees transform into vibrant colors, painting the entire mountain in beautiful autumn shades. The carpet of fallen leaves on the slopes is particularly spectacular. Nighttime illuminations are held in spring and autumn, showcasing a different charm compared to the daytime.
The park also features several highlights, including the "Akuri Garden," which has a statue of Princess Akuri, the daughter of Asano Nagaharu, the "Seishin Pond" with its dry landscape garden, and a monument dedicated to the singer Nakamura Kenkichi, who hails from Sakaiminato and is part of the Arorokuki school of music.
