About Okurayama Jump Stadium (Okurayama Observation Deck)
Understand the history of the Winter Olympics in Sapporo and appreciate the best views of Sapporo.
Details
Located at the summit of Okura Mountain, the "Okura Mountain Ski Jump Stadium" was the competition venue for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. At that time, a streamlined ski jump was built along the ridge to serve as a 90-meter (now known as Large Hill) ski jump site, and today it has become a place that attracts tourists to reminisce about those years.
The view from the observation deck is also one of its appealing highlights. This unique viewing facility, which overlooks the ski jump, allows visitors to gaze across a 307-meter high take-off ramp to see Sapporo city and the Ishikari Plain. Especially after sunset, the sea of lights along the mountain ridge unfolds like a carpet of light, creating a distinctive landscape unique to Okura Mountain.
The stadium also houses the Sapporo Olympic Museum, which showcases the origins of the Olympic Rings and the athletes' struggles during competitions. It features facilities that allow visitors to experience Olympic events firsthand, making it a place where one can easily learn about Olympic history.
