🍜 Ouchi-juku Misawaya大内宿 三澤屋
About Ouchi-juku Misawaya
In the post town with Edo period street scenes, savor the "Takato Soba" where leeks are used instead of chopsticks.
Details
On the street of Ōuchi-juku, which is a designated preservation area for important traditional buildings in Japan, there are about 40 thatched-roof houses, and Misawa-ya is one of them. This soba noodle shop, converted from an old house, features a clock that marks the time and a sunken hearth where charcoal is lit in winter, creating a serene space with a pure Japanese atmosphere. The walls are adorned with numerous soba pig-shaped cups, which are also worth seeing.
When visiting Misawa-ya, you must try the "Takaon Soba," which was also loved by the lord of the Aizu domain. The soba noodles topped with grated daikon come with a whole green onion, making for a visually striking presentation when served. The green onion can be used as chopsticks and can also be eaten directly as a condiment. The fragrant 100% buckwheat soba paired with green onion and grated daikon offers an excellent flavor. For a simpler taste of soba, you can enjoy "Mizusoba," which is served with water, or the popular "Kenchin Soba (けんちんそば)," which includes tofu and vegetables.
In addition, Misawa-ya offers a variety of local sake, including their original "Yukichu Hyakkimei Ōuchi-juku," which has been aged in the snow for a hundred days, as well as several dishes that pair well with sake, such as river fish dishes and tempura.
