🎨 Shrine Gallery
📝 Introduction
Located in the village of Shirakawa, this shrine is famous for its appearance in a well-known anime.
📖 Details
Located in the World Heritage site of "Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri Village," Shirakawa Hachiman Shrine was built during the Wadō era (708-715). The main deity enshrined is Emperor Ōjin, and the Shaka Hall on the right side of the shrine is believed to be a structure from the era of syncretism between Shinto and Buddhism. It is said that the Shaka Hall was constructed by the local lord Yamashita in the 4th year of the Kan'ei era (1627). The ancient cedar tree in the shrine grounds reaches a height of 30 meters and has been designated as a natural monument of Shirakawa Village. Every year from late September to October, Shirakawa Village holds the "Doburoku Matsuri," a festival praying for a bountiful harvest, family safety, and local peace, during which Shirakawa Hachiman Shrine also offers doburoku (unrefined sake) to visitors.
