🗺️ Saru Bridge猿橋

Located in Yamanashi Prefecture, the Saruhashi Bridge measures 30.9 meters in length and 3.3 meters in width, but due to the valley's depth of 31 meters, it has no bridge piers. Instead, it is supported by a rare structure made of four layers of wooden planks spanning between the two banks. It is known as one of the "Three Great Unusual Bridges of Japan," alongside the Kintai Bridge and the Kiso Bridge. Its fame was further amplified by its depiction in Utagawa Hiroshige's "View of Saruhashi in Kōyō" and Jippensha Ikku's "Kin no Waraji on the Road through Various Provinces." Legend has it that the bridge was inspired by the sight of many monkeys crossing together to the other side, which also explains the name "Saruhashi" (Monkey Bridge). The trail leading to the park near Saruhashi is also a well-known spot for hydrangea viewing, with the best time to enjoy the flowers being late June each year. Additionally, in autumn, the maple trees and foliage turn vibrant colors, providing a beautiful display of autumn scenery.
