Details
A 5-minute walk from Sendai Station, the "Sendai Morning Market," known as the kitchen of Sendai, offers extremely convenient transportation. This market primarily features fresh produce from the local Miyagi Prefecture and boasts a variety of dining establishments, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the culinary delights of Sendai and Miyagi from shopping to dining.
Originally established as the "Aozora Market" in front of Sendai Station in 1945 (Showa 20), it has now developed into a large shopping street with around 60 stalls. The ingredients sold here include a rich variety of vegetables and fruits, fresh fish and seafood products, as well as meats, deli items, pickles, and grains. Miyagi Prefecture has long been renowned as a kingdom of ingredients, with seasonal specialties such as Sendai strawberries and silver salmon in spring, Sendai long eggplants and shrimp in summer, the famous tuna and Kinkasan mackerel in autumn, and winter delicacies like flatfish and Sendai snow vegetables, showcasing a dazzling array of seasonal ingredients.
The dining area is filled with various shops, including cafeterias selling boiled fish and deli items, specialty salad shops using fresh vegetables from the market, and coffee shops perfect for a morning pick-me-up. Notably, the morning market cafeteria "Syouya (しょう家)" is famous for its Morning Market Donburi, where you can enjoy a fresh seafood bowl for just a small price (500 yen), making it very popular among visitors.
