About Shiga Takashima Blueberry Farm
Unlimited ripe blueberries to eat!
Details
Located in the nature-rich northern part of Lake Biwa, the blueberry experience farm in Takashima City, between Makino Town and Imazu Town, allows visitors to enjoy delicious blueberries cultivated with abundant natural water from the foot of Mount Hakodate. Blueberries are said to be rich in antioxidants that have anti-aging effects, and recent studies have dubbed them the "king of superfruits." The farm operates from late June to the end of August for about two months.
The expansive farm features around 660 plants of over 20 varieties of blueberries, each with slightly different sweetness, acidity, and texture, allowing for tasting comparisons. The blueberries here are not planted in the ground but in pots, and the ground is covered with weed cloth, making it easy for strollers and wheelchairs to access the farm, and preventing muddy conditions even in the rain. Since the blueberry season coincides with hot weather, there are also small wooden cabins and tents for resting within the farm.
In the coffee area, visitors can enjoy yogurt smoothies made from ripe blueberries grown on the farm, as well as freshly baked blueberry cream cheese pastries.
Highlights
