About Shikoku Aquarium
The exhibition concept themed "Shikoku Water Scenery" is full of innovation! A next-generation aquarium in the Shikoku region.
Details
Located next to the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the Shikoku Aquarium in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture, opened in June 2020.
The Shikoku Aquarium features the theme of "Shikoku Water Scenery," recreating the rich and diverse underwater landscapes of various regions in Shikoku, including the Seto Inland Sea, the Pacific Ocean, and the clear streams of the Shimanto River. The exhibits, named "Water Scenery," are a highlight of the aquarium, which houses around 400 species of marine life, totaling approximately 14,000 individual animals.
Visitors can enjoy over 70 types of water scenery throughout the aquarium, with the most striking being the largest tank in the Shikoku region, called "Mizutsumi no Suke." This tank measures 11 meters wide and 5.5 meters high, creating a stunning visual impact. The tank is themed around the Kuroshio current flowing along the southern coast of Shikoku, using lighting to depict the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Within this seemingly infinite tank, various fish swim energetically, captivating all visiting guests.
Additionally, there are other highlights such as "Kaminazuki no Suke," where visitors can observe the swimming patterns of the red-fleshed hammerhead shark from below; and "Uzumaki no Suke," which allows guests to experience the fierce tides of the "Naruto Strait" as if peering from the sea. The aquarium features many creatively designed and charming exhibits.
Moreover, in the "Dolphin Pool," visitors can enjoy dolphin shows set against the backdrop of the Seto Inland Sea, as well as observe penguins, sea lions, and otters during feeding sessions or participate in feeding experiences (feeding experiences require an additional fee).
