🗺️ Shimanami Kaidoしまなみ海道
About Shimanami Kaido
Known as a sacred place for cyclists, it features beautiful bike paths connecting Honshu and Shikoku.
Details
The Shimanami Kaido, connecting Honshu and Shikoku over approximately 60 kilometers, links Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture, connecting six islands in the Seto Inland Sea through a series of bridges. It consists of the Nishiseto Expressway, the Innoshima Bridge Road, and the Oshima Road.
Apart from the Shin-Onomichi Bridge, each bridge has dedicated paths for cyclists and pedestrians, allowing riders to enjoy the scenic views of the Seto Inland Sea islands while cycling. This cycling route is also known as Japan's first "cross-strait cycling path."
There are bicycle rental service stations located along the route, and by making good use of the bike return services at different locations, you can enjoy the freedom of cycling. Exploring the various islands by bike provides a tranquil and relaxing time, making for an extraordinary holiday. The climate of the Seto Inland Sea is uniquely mild, allowing for cycling trips year-round.
