About Shin-Hotaka Ropeway
Take Japan's only double-decker cable car and enjoy a stroll in the clouds at an altitude of 2,156 meters.
Details
Located in the heart of Takayama, the Okuhida Onsen area features the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway. From the starting point at "Shin-Hotaka Onsen" station to the endpoint at "Nishi-Hotaka-guchi" station, you can enjoy a continuous ride on the first and second cable cars, taking a scenic aerial walk over a distance of 3,200 meters.
Upon reaching the Nishi-Hotaka-guchi station at an elevation of 2,156 meters, head to the observation deck on the top floor of the station. Here, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Northern Alps, including peaks such as Nishi-Hotaka-dake, Yari-dake, and Kasa-dake. The Nishi-Hotaka-guchi observation deck has also been selected as a two-star attraction in the Michelin Green Guide Japan for its breathtaking scenery.
In July 2020, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the second cable car, the only double-decker cable car in Japan, underwent a complete renovation. At the same time, the only bakery in Shirakabadaira station, "Alps Bakery," and the station facilities were improved, enhancing the comfort and enjoyment of the ride.
Seasonal limited activities such as "Starry Sky Viewing Rides" in spring, summer, and autumn, "Sunset Cable Car" in autumn, and winter snow activities including snowshoe hiking have received great acclaim.
