About Shiraito Falls (Shizuoka Prefecture)
A must-see for waterfall enthusiasts! The Shizuoka Famous Waterfall, recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site, is renowned for its elegant scenery.
Details
The Shiraito Falls, located on the southwestern foot of Mount Fuji in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a national scenic spot and natural monument in Japan. As part of the asset "Mount Fuji - Object of Worship and Source of Art," it has been registered as a World Cultural Heritage site. Hundreds of waterfalls, large and small, cascade down the curved cliff that is 20 meters high and 150 meters wide, resembling strands of white silk hanging from the rock face. The water source of the falls comes from the springs of Mount Fuji, with an instantaneous flow rate reaching up to 1.5 tons, making it the largest waterfall at the foot of Mount Fuji. By walking down the long steps in front of the observation deck, visitors can get close to the pool at the base of the waterfall. Observing the waterfall from a close distance allows one to fully appreciate its grandeur and mysterious atmosphere.
There is an accessible pathway, so visitors in wheelchairs can also enjoy the view of the waterfall from the observation deck. Even in summer, the weather is quite cool, so it is recommended to bring a light jacket just in case. On the way from the parking lot to Shiraito Falls, there is another waterfall called "Otodome Falls." Otodome Falls has a drop of about 25 meters and a width of about 5 meters, and it has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls alongside Shiraito Falls.
Additionally, Fujinomiya City is the original city of the famous Japanese dish "Fujinomiya Yakisoba." Fujinomiya Yakisoba is a specialty stir-fried noodle dish made with chewy noodles, pork lard, sardine powder, and water from Mount Fuji springs. It is available for purchase at specialty shops and fast-food restaurants along the route from the parking lot to Shiraito Falls.
