🗺️ Subway Museum

📝 Introduction

Through "watching, touching, and manipulating," understand the history and latest technology of the Japanese subway.

📖 Details

The Subway Museum opened in 1986, located under the elevated bridge at Kasai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. Visitors can purchase tickets designed to resemble train tickets from the ticket machines and enter the museum through an entrance designed to look like a ticket gate. Upon entering the museum, the first thing you will see are two vintage subway cars: the "Marunouchi Line No. 301" and the first subway car in Japan, the "Ginza Line No. 1001" (which has been designated as an important cultural asset of the country). These antique cars still convey the grandeur of their time. Visitors can freely explore the interiors of the cars. The most popular attraction in the museum is the driving simulator, where you can experience driving a subway train from a real train driver's console. The almost realistic driving experience is particularly fun, with the sensation of the train swaying feeling very lifelike. The panoramic three-dimensional model that reproduces the operation of the Tokyo Metro is also very captivating. The intricate network of lines and the model trains speeding by are mesmerizing, making it hard to leave. This is a great place to learn about Japan's subway system, especially for railway enthusiasts who will find great satisfaction here.
