About Taitung District Sumida Park
The park located by the Sumida River is famous for its cherry blossom viewing spots and as a popular photo opportunity for the Tokyo Skytree.
Details
Taitō City Sumida Park is a park located on the west bank of the Sumida River in Taitō Ward. The park on the east bank is Sumida Ward's Sumida Park. Covering an area of over 10 hectares, it features a "Cherry Blossom Square" at its center, where many cherry trees are planted. In addition to Somei Yoshino and Oshima cherry trees, the most representative cherry tree in the park is the descendant of the "Miharu Takizakura," a weeping cherry tree from Miharu Town in Tamura County, Fukushima Prefecture, estimated to be over a thousand years old. Every year during the cherry blossom viewing season, not only local residents but also a large number of visitors from other counties and cities flock to the park, making it a very popular cherry blossom viewing spot. In addition to cherry blossoms, visitors can also enjoy the beauty of seasonal flowers such as plum blossoms and hydrangeas.
The park is also a well-known viewing spot, offering a view of the towering Tokyo Skytree across the Sumida River. The unobstructed observation square is the best place to view the Skytree. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Skytree framed by cherry blossoms or the night view adorned with colorful lights, which changes with the seasons and times of day, making it a highly praised and popular photo spot. It is also famous as the venue for the summer "Sumida River Fireworks Festival."
