📝 Introduction
You can fully enjoy the sightseeing train of Takachiho's beautiful nature.
📖 Details
Once beloved by travelers, the Takachiho Railway faced the prospect of ceasing operations in 2005. To continue utilizing this line, a diesel-powered small train was introduced for sightseeing purposes. The journey from Takachiho Station to Takachiho Bridge covers a distance of 5.1 kilometers, passing through two tunnels and taking about 30 minutes at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
Takachiho Station has completely preserved the architecture from the Japan National Railways era, exuding a strong nostalgic atmosphere. The exhibition area inside the station showcases machines and materials that were used in the past. There is also a café on-site where visitors can take a break before or after their ride. Additionally, an old diesel carriage from the Takachiho Railway era is preserved, allowing visitors to explore the carriage, and through prior reservations, they can also experience the fun of driving the train.
The Takachiho small train can accommodate up to 30 passengers, with a total of 10 trips per day. The drivers, who are familiar with the Takachiho Railway, also serve as guides. Railway enthusiasts should not miss this opportunity. Since reservations are not accepted and there are many visitors on weekends and holidays, it is advisable to purchase tickets in advance.
