Mount Takao, the most visited mountain in the world, attracts 3 million visitors each year. Although it stands at a modest elevation of 599 meters, it is home to thousands of insect species and approximately 1,600 plant species, making it a rich natural ecosystem. The Takao 599 Museum is a free facility that conveys the charm of Mount Takao and provides a new space for interaction. The first floor introduces the flora and fauna of Mount Takao. Beautiful acrylic resin plant specimens, lifelike insect specimens, and taxidermied animal displays are complemented by innovative 3D projections, recreating the richness of nature. The second floor, known as the PUBLIC GALLERY, is used for lectures and experiential workshops, allowing hikers and local residents to interact. There is also a dedicated area providing information on hiking routes and seasonal recommended spots on Mount Takao, making it a convenient destination both before and after hiking. If you wish to take a break, you can enjoy drinks or light meals in the café furnished with tables and chairs made from Tama wood. Outside the museum, there is a spacious grassy plaza featuring benches shaped like the number 599 and a JYABUJYABU water pool, where children can play or enjoy their bento lunches.
