About Takashi no Kuni Literature Museum
Convey the charm of writers from Toyama Prefecture and their works.
Details
The "Manyoshu poet" Oka no Takamori created 223 poems to celebrate the land of Manyo, which is Toyama Prefecture. There are many literary works set in Toyama, such as Teru Miyamoto's "Hotarugawa" and Heizo Kashiwabara's "Nagomichi," and many writers also hail from Toyama, including Yoshio Hotta, Keita Genji, and Motoyoshi Kadokawa. In addition, there are many writers and artists active in the worlds of film and manga. The Takashi no Kuni Literature Museum not only houses literary works but also extensively collects picture books, films, manga, and animations, allowing anyone to easily access and understand literature here.
In the permanent exhibition, through original manuscripts of related authors and digital scrolls depicting the life of Oka no Takamori, the museum introduces the literature of Toyama that has continued from the Manyo period to the present. Guests can experience and learn about Toyama's "local literature" through walls filled with related books, displays of Toyama's beautiful scenery and short poem performance equipment, as well as digital picture books showcasing the creation process of manga and animation.
It is worth mentioning that since ancient times, the Hokuriku region has been referred to as "Echigo (Takamori)," which is the origin of the name "Takashi no Kuni." The writing of Takashi is relatively old, and it can also be seen in the "Nihon Shoki," with the naming derived from the hope that everyone can share its lofty aspirations.
