🗺️ Taki Rentaro Memorial Museum
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
In memory of the youth of the composer who passed away at a young age.
📖 Details
The composer of works such as "Kōjō no Tsuki" (荒城之月), "Shirayuki Funbai" (白雪紛飛), "Shōgatsu" (正月), "Hana" (花), and "Hato" (鳩) — Rentarō Taki (瀧廉太郎, 1879–1903) — lived in a residence from the ages of 12 to 14, which has now been converted into a memorial museum. The museum displays photos of Taki, letters, his handwritten calligraphy, and musical scores. It is said that due to his battle with tuberculosis, many of his original manuscripts were destroyed. Therefore, the handwritten scores that remain are considered precious artifacts. Additionally, there is a 15-minute film that introduces his short life.
The architecture of the memorial museum is also distinctive, retaining features such as a warehouse and a courtyard cave that was used as a stable. Visitors can wear wooden clogs (geta) in the courtyard and listen to the sounds of birds and the wooden clogs that Taki himself would have heard in his youth, allowing them to relive Taki's life at that time. The sounds of stepping stones and wooden clogs that Taki heard in his youth are echoed in the courtyard, and visitors can wear wooden clogs to experience Taki's life.
Nearby the memorial museum is the "Rentarō Tunnel" (廉太郎隧道), and as one passes through this approximately 15-meter-long tunnel, his composed songs are played.
