About Tamatsukuri Onsen
One of the oldest hot spring towns in Japan, known for its skin-beautifying effects.
Details
Yuzuki Onsen Street is located among the mountains upstream of the Yutou River on the southern shore of Lake Shinji, and it is the oldest hot spring resort in Japan. The "Izumo Fudoki" records that "a single bath can beautify the skin, and another bath can cure a hundred ailments." Sei Shonagon also praised it as a beauty bath in her essay collection "The Pillow Book" (ๆ่ๅญ).
The hot spring is rich in beneficial minerals for the skin, such as sulfate ions and metasilicic acid, and is known for its skin-moisturizing properties. There are three foot bath locations on the hot spring street that can be enjoyed for free, and visitors can fill their own bottles with hot spring water at the Yuyakushi Plaza to take home.
Deep within the hot spring street lies the "Tamatsukuri Onsen Shrine," which is said to be particularly effective in bringing good relationships. There are also energy spots for romantic luck, such as the "Koi Kuru Well" and the "Love Achievement Bridge." Additionally, there are many attractions appealing to female visitors, including the Himegami Plaza, which features a statue of the goddess of beautiful skin.
Furthermore, on the surface of the Yutou River flowing through the hot spring town, there is a small island shaped like a magatama, where green agate stones, the raw material for magatama, can be found. It is said that simply touching these agate stones will bring happiness.
Scattered throughout the hot spring street are statues themed around famous scenes from Izumo mythology, such as the defeat of the Yamata no Orochi and the story of the Inaba White Rabbit. It is recommended to stroll around while enjoying the hot springs to experience the unique cultural atmosphere of the Izumo region.
