📖 Details
The strait, said to have formed 6,000 years ago, is located between Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture at the westernmost tip of Honshu and Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is named "Kanmon Strait" by taking the first characters of "Kan" from Shimonoseki (下関市) and "Mon" from Mojiko (門司区).
To cross the Kanmon Strait by land, there are three options: the Kanmon Bridge, the Kanmon National Route Tunnel, or the JR line connected by an underwater tunnel. If you take the "Kanmon Tunnel Walking Path," you can walk across the Kanmon Strait. Additionally, there is a maritime route where you can take the "Kanmon Ferry," which offers a scenic 5-minute boat ride, allowing you to view large vessels navigating the Kanmon Strait.
In the Kanmon Strait area, there are several sightseeing spots such as the Dream Tower of the Strait and the shopping center "Kamonwharf," where you can enjoy views of the Kanmon Strait, along with nearby attractions.
