📝 Introduction
The Ottoman Mosque has been recreated, which is the largest Islamic worship hall in Japan.
📖 Details
Tokyo Camii (Tokyo Great Mosque, Turkish Cultural Center) is the largest mosque in Japan. The term "Camii" in Turkish refers to a large mosque where five daily prayers are held on Fridays, and it originates from the Arabic word meaning "a place where people gather."
Construction of the Tokyo Great Mosque began in 1988 and it was officially opened in June 2000. The prayer hall features stunning stained glass that changes appearance depending on the weather or time of day. The dome ceiling is adorned with calligraphy of the names of Allah and the Prophet, as well as excerpts from the Quran.
The Tokyo Great Mosque is accompanied by a Turkish Cultural Center, which not only hosts mosque-related activities but also serves to promote Islamic and Turkish culture. On the first floor of the cultural center, there is a halal market where Turkish desserts, black tea, and groceries can be purchased. The basement features an event hall, the second floor has a café and various workshop activities, and the third floor includes Turkish classrooms where visitors can engage with Turkish culture.
