🗺️ Touno Winery都農ワイナリー

The Touno Winery is located on a hill in Touno Town, Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture, overlooking the beautiful Hyuga-nada Sea. In 2004, it was selected as one of the "100 Most Exciting Wines" in the world by the annual wine report "Wine Report." It also won a gold medal at the "Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition 2021," organized by Asia's largest wine judging committee, and received the "Best Wine From Japan" trophy, making it a globally recognized winery. Due to the excessive rainfall in the area where the winery is located, it was initially considered unsuitable for grape cultivation. However, shortly after the end of World War II, pioneers began to plant grapes in this land. They installed rain covers to prevent water intrusion and put great effort into every process, from improving the soil, selecting grape seedlings, pruning the vines, to harvesting the fruit. They also took advantage of the warm climate during the short winters to turn the orchards into a summer grape production area, promoting the brand "O-ring Grapes" throughout Japan. The winery tour, guided by the winemaker himself, is highly recommended. Visitors can explore the vineyards and the wine-making process. The entire tour lasts about 60 minutes (fee & reservation required). The facility also has a café offering tastings (fee) and light meals. Every October, the winery holds a "Grape Harvest Festival" to celebrate the release of new wine.
