About Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology
Learn about the history of Toyota and the changes in industrial technology at the birthplace of the Toyota Group.
Details
The Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology is located on the grounds of the experimental factory built in 1911 by the group's founder, Sakichi Toyoda, for the research and development of weaving machines. This museum is a repurposed facility that utilizes the old factory buildings. It is divided into two sections: the "Textile Machinery Hall" and the "Automobile Hall." The "Textile Machinery Hall" primarily introduces the textile machinery that marks the origin of Toyota's industrial endeavors, while the "Automobile Hall" showcases the evolution of Toyota's automotive technology.
In the "Textile Machinery Hall," the columns, beams, and red brick walls of the old textile factory built during the Taisho era are preserved, allowing visitors to feel as if they have traveled back in time to the textile factories of the Taisho and early Showa periods. The exhibition hall features approximately 100 exhibits, including tools and machines from the early days of textile weaving, as well as modern mechatronic fiber machinery. Staff conduct live demonstrations, allowing visitors to witness firsthand how weaving machines accurately spin threads and weave fabrics.
The "Automobile Hall" presents the manufacturing milestones of Toyota's vehicles from various perspectives. It consists of five sections: "The Early Days of the Automotive Business," "Vehicle Development Focused on the Times," "Development Technology," "Production Technology," and the "Kiichiro Toyoda Exhibition Area," providing an in-depth understanding of Toyota's automotive history and philosophy.
Additionally, the museum features a shop, restaurant, café, and library, making it a perfect place to spend a fulfilling and enjoyable day with family.
