Since its establishment in 1925 (Taisho 14), the Tsuchiura Fireworks Competition in Ibaraki Prefecture has a long history. Fireworks operators from across the country gather to compete. The competition is divided into three categories: the "Star Mine Division," which features the continuous launch of hundreds of fireworks; the "No. 10 Fireworks Division," which focuses on the arrangement and color of the stars when the fireworks bloom; and the "Creative Fireworks Division," which showcases innovative designs and new technologies. In addition to the competitive fireworks, the event also features a must-see highlight, the "Tsuchiura Fireworks Long Continuous Launch," which utilizes the entire launch area to create a spectacular display of long continuous fireworks that is breathtaking. After the competition, a grand finale of large-scale fireworks is launched, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the lingering excitement of the fireworks festival. Over approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, around 20,000 fireworks are launched, making it one of the largest fireworks festivals in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors each year.
