📝 Introduction
The coffee shop inside Tsukiji Hongan-ji offers a nutritious "18-item breakfast," providing a healthy and energetic start to the day.
📖 Details
Tsukiji Honganji celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2017, and within its information center, designed with the concept of being a "diverse and open temple," is the café Tsumugi. With a great view of the main hall through a large glass wall, visitors can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and desserts in a serene atmosphere. In November 2022, additional seating was added, transforming it into a bookstore café where patrons can read Buddhist texts and other books.
The café's most popular offering is the limited "18-item breakfast," designed based on the 18th vow among the 48 vows made by Amida Buddha, known for its significance. The meal includes rice porridge, miso soup, and as many as 16 side dishes. The side dishes, such as "tofu with yuzu sauce," "salmon roe on tofu skin," and "duck with sansho pepper," along with desserts like "matcha jelly," provide a rich and unique variety that makes it hard to decide where to start eating. The sight of 18 small dishes neatly arranged on a square tray is stunning; not only is the taste excellent, but its visual appeal is also a major reason for its popularity. Half of the seating during breakfast hours is reserved, so if you want to ensure a spot, it is recommended to make a reservation in advance on the official website.
The main hall opens for worship at 6 AM. After visiting the hall, enjoying breakfast at a leisurely pace is sure to lead to a fulfilling day.
