About Tsukuba Expo Center
One of the largest planetariums in the world. A science museum where you can observe, touch, and learn about science and technology.
Details
The Tsukuba Expo Center (筑波博覽中心) is a science museum that allows every visitor to become familiar with science while disseminating information about science and technology. The main highlight is the large dome-shaped planetarium, which is one of the largest in the world, with an internal diameter of 25.6 meters and a seating capacity of 210.
In addition to the stunning full-dome projections of the starry sky, the easy-to-understand live explanations by museum staff are also very popular. Original programs and content featuring anime characters aimed at children are introduced at different times.
The exhibition hall features many interactive exhibits where visitors can learn scientific principles and experience the joy of discovery. The 3D theater, which unfolds a world of wonder through stereoscopic images, and the exhibition hall on the second floor introduce how humanity utilizes science to create a better future across five areas, including space development and the deep sea.
Another major attraction is that visitors can watch science performances simply by purchasing a ticket. The themes of the performances change every month, focusing on scientific experiments (live demonstrations) that are difficult to replicate at home or in school. Additionally, there are monthly science classrooms where visitors can personally experience and rediscover the joy of science.
