With a history of over 800 years, the renowned establishment "Tsurube Sushi Yasuke (つるべすし弥助)" gained fame as the stage for the well-known Bunraku and Kabuki performance "Yoshitsune Senbonzakura." The restaurant is housed in a wooden three-story building that is over 80 years old, with a striking red exterior. Literary giants such as Eiji Yoshikawa and Jun'ichirō Tanizaki have dined here, making it a historic and prestigious venue. The restaurant primarily offers a rich menu featuring wild sweetfish caught in the Kii waters. Dishes like salt-grilled sweetfish, sweetfish with fresh vegetables, and sweetfish pressed sushi are all highly praised. Although sweetfish dishes are available year-round, the small sweetfish that are in season in June are particularly delicious. Whole sweetfish sushi and grilled sweetfish pressed sushi are also available for takeout as souvenirs. Inside, there are approximately 80 seats, including tatami seating and private rooms. The view of the garden from the spacious 22-tatami mat room on the third floor is truly refreshing. The garden, designed with a slope, showcases different seasonal appearances, full of vibrant charm.
