🗺️ Tsuruma Bridge

📝 Introduction

Japan's longest wooden triple-arch bridge.

📖 Details

Tsurumai Bridge is a wooden triple-arch bridge spanning Lake Fujimi, with a total length of 300 meters. As it is a long wooden bridge, its Japanese pronunciation is similar to "Chōsei Bridge," leading to a legend that crossing the bridge can extend one's life, which has contributed to its popularity. Tsurumai Bridge is famous for offering views of Mount Iwaki reflected on the surface of the lake, known as "Tsugaru Reverse Fuji," and has thus become a location for advertisements by JR East Japan. However, "Tsugaru Reverse Fuji" can only be seen on calm, sunny days. Additionally, there are attractions nearby, such as "Tanchō Crane Nature Park" and "Lake Fujimi Park," making it a great place for leisurely strolls. Another recommended attraction near Tsurumai Bridge is "Towada Shrine," located by the shores of Lake Fujimi. This shrine is dedicated to Princess Shirakami, who drowned herself in the lake due to heartbreak. The tragic and beautiful love story between the lord of Shimizu Castle and Princess Shirakami is well-known in the Tsugaru Fujimi Lake area. It is said that Princess Shirakami fell in love with the lord, but he married another woman. Heartbroken, she threw herself into the Great Ryu Pool (another name for Lake Fujimi) and transformed into a white dragon to torment the lord. Subsequently, the villagers built this shrine out of admiration and fear of Princess Shirakami. Today, the shrine has become a place of worship for deities that protect pure love and provide energy for romantic success.
