📜 Content

Tsuruma Park is a representative comprehensive park in Nagoya, established in 1909 as the first park set up by Nagoya City, and it celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2019. Throughout the park, one can find historical monuments and landmark buildings, such as Roman-style marble columns combined with a Japanese-Western style fountain tower called Iwazumi, as well as a music hall in the Italian Renaissance style. Until it moved to Higashiyama in 1937, the park also had a history of housing a municipal zoo. The cherry blossoms at Tsuruma Park are selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots," attracting crowds of flower viewers in spring. There are also lighting events held at night, enhancing the beauty of the scenery. The view of the floating shrine, Ukimidō, reflected on the surface of Ryūchi Pond along with the cherry blossoms is particularly charming and worth appreciating. Not only cherry blossoms, but seasonal flowers bloom throughout the year, showcasing the most picturesque scenes of Japan. Especially in May and June, the sight of about 20,000 irises blooming together is a must-see. The autumn foliage is also stunning. Next to the Nagoya City "Greening Center" in the park, there is a tree specimen garden, and the facility also includes a greenhouse called "Green Salon." The most famous plant here is the "Drunken Hibiscus," which starts as white in the morning, turns pink during the day, and becomes red in the evening. Its blooming season is from early August to early October.
