🎨 Restaurant Gallery
📝 Introduction
The Akasaka branch of the long-established wagashi shop "Toraya," founded in the late Muromachi period.
📖 Details
Tsuya was founded in the late Muromachi period and was originally a wagashi shop opened in Kyoto. In the second year of the Meiji era (1869), with the capital moving to Tokyo, it retained its Kyoto location and opened a branch in Tokyo. In the twelfth year of the Meiji era (1879), a branch was established in Akasaka, and in the thirty-ninth year of the Showa era (1964), it moved to its current location. After a complete renovation in 2018, the store reopened with a fresh look.
Inside, there is a manufacturing area (御用場), the second floor is a product sales area, the third floor houses the Tsuya Café (虎屋菓寮), and the basement features an art gallery. In the spacious sales area, not only are the signature classic yokan and seasonal namagashi displayed, but also limited-edition products exclusive to the store that are not to be missed.
The Tsuya Café on the third floor offers a variety of meals. In addition to desserts like "Anmitsu (黒糖)" and "Jikabuto" that showcase the flavors of wasanbon, light meals such as the "Akasaka Seasonal Set" made with ingredients like red beans and Yamato yam are also quite popular.
Additionally, the art gallery in the basement features a confectionery information room and displays from the Tsuya Library, and regularly hosts exhibitions and events related to wagashi and Japanese culture.
