📜 Content

Established in Ueno Onshi Park, this private art museum opened in 1972 (Showa 47). The museum does not have a permanent collection and holds various planned exhibitions and open-call exhibitions irregularly, showcasing works from foreign museums, important cultural properties, and various art pieces. Since 1994, it has hosted the "Contemporary Art Exhibition (VOCA Exhibition)" to introduce new works by young artists under 40. Additionally, it actively organizes open-call exhibitions such as the "Ueno no Mori Museum Grand Prize Exhibition" and "Exhibition Depicting Japan's Nature," aiming to discover and nurture contemporary artists. The museum also occasionally holds unique planned exhibitions that generate significant buzz, such as the "Yoshihiro Inoue Last Manga Exhibition," which is known as a pioneer in manga exhibitions, and the "Vermeer Exhibition," which features nine works by Vermeer, the largest number in Japan's history. In addition to the main building, the first floor of the annex houses the "Ueno no Mori Museum Gallery," which hosts small planned exhibitions, while the third floor of the annex features the "Ueno no Mori ART SCHOOL," expanding activities beyond exhibitions.
