About Unosaki Coast
A stunning coastal attraction known as the "Uyuni Salt Flat of Akita."
Details
The coastline of the southern part of the Oga Peninsula, stretching 1.5 kilometers, is known as the "Uyuni Salt Flat of Akita" due to the stunning reflections of the scenery on its mirror-like calm waters. The vast shallow waters reflect the blue sky or sunset, creating a breathtaking landscape. On windless days, the tranquil sea surface can clearly mirror the shapes of clouds.
During low tide, you can walk out to 200 meters into the nearshore area, but please pay attention to safety while strolling nearby. In addition to playing by the shore or collecting shells, you can also see a unique geological feature known as "Oni no Senbongi" (鬼の洗濯板), which is formed when the softer layers of earth are eroded by sea waves, creating a terrain that resembles a giant washboard. Here, you can find shells, stones, and even fossils of fish bones and scales. Additionally, the nearby "Azuki Rock" (小豆岩), covered with round stones resembling beans, is also worth a visit.
The coastal area is set up as a park with children's playground equipment, parking lots, and restrooms. From spring to autumn, there are also free cold water shower facilities available for use.
