🗺️ Unzen Onsen

📝 Introduction

A hot spring town that features high-quality hot springs sourced from "Jigokudani" (Hell Valley) as its main attraction.

📖 Details

In the 19th century, the "Unzen Onsen" was developed as a summer retreat for foreigners, located in the center of the Shimabara Peninsula in the southern part of Nagasaki Prefecture. The hot spring town is situated within a national park rich in natural resources, which is quite rare, with several ryokans and hotels distributed at an altitude of 700 meters in the mountains. In the heart of the hot spring town, there is an area known as "Jigoku" (地獄), where high-temperature springs are densely concentrated. Visitors can leisurely stroll along well-maintained paths. The strong smell of sulfur and the billowing white steam fill the entire area, creating a shocking scene reminiscent of the "hell" described in Buddhist teachings. It is said that this wonder is created by the energy from magma accumulated beneath the sea, making it a unique attraction of Unzen. When visiting Unzen, it's worth taking a look at this area. The hot springs at various accommodations in Unzen Onsen are sourced from this "Jigoku," allowing guests to enjoy high-quality, strongly acidic hot springs rich in sulfur minerals. The hot springs have various benefits, including skin beautification, fatigue relief, and alleviation of neuralgia and arthritis. They provide a healing experience for travel fatigue, allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely and relaxing soak.
