About Urato Coast
You can appreciate the rugged coastal wonders crafted by the Sea of Japan.
Details
Iwami Town is located on the eastern side of Tottori Prefecture. The unique and complex coastline of the Arai Coast stretches for 15 kilometers, shaped by the turbulent waves and snowstorms of the Japan Sea, resulting in spectacular sights such as cliffs, caves, and strange rock formations. This area is not only designated as one of Japan's "100 Scenic Views," a national scenic spot, and a natural monument, but it is also listed as a UNESCO Global Geopark, earning it the nickname "Matsushima of San'in."
Along the coastline between Ajillo Port and Tahoko Port, which is dotted with numerous small islands such as Nanohana Goto and Chikkan Matsushima, there is a walking path approximately 3 kilometers long. Along the way, there are several observation decks where visitors can enjoy the changing natural scenery. The contrast between the tumultuous coastline and the stunning white sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters is breathtaking. Additionally, the fishing lights from squid boats on summer nights and the sunsets sinking below the horizon are incredibly captivating.
For those who want to get closer to the intricate coastline, taking a sightseeing boat is recommended. Depending on your needs, you can choose from various types of boats, including sightseeing boats with a captain's commentary, small boats that can enter caves and rock formations, or glass-bottom boats that allow you to observe the underwater world. Paddling your own kayak on the sea also offers a unique experience.
