🗺️ Wakakusa Mountain
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
Overlooking the cityscape of Nara and its stunning night views, it is also famous for the annual "Yaki-yama" (Burning Mountain) event.
📖 Details
Wakakusa Mountain has an elevation of 342 meters, and the trails are relatively gentle, with the entire mountain covered in grass. Because it looks like three conical hats stacked on top of each other, it is also known as "Mikasayama" (三笠山). Wakakusa Mountain is famous for the traditional Nara event "Yamayaki" (燒山祭), held every January.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the foot of the mountain to the summit. From the top, you can see scenic spots in Nara, such as Kofuku-ji (興福寺) and Todai-ji (東大寺).
You can choose various hiking routes based on your physical condition and time, from light hiking aimed at the "first level" to the grassland area, to climbing challenges aimed at the "third level" summit, and even leisurely walks through the vast primeval forest that extends deeper into the mountain.
Additionally, you can drive directly to the summit to enjoy the beautiful night view. In April 2003, the night view of Wakakusa Mountain was selected as one of the "New Three Great Night Views of Japan" (新日本三大夜景).
