In ancient times, the Hokuriku region, where Nagahama is located, had a custom called "Satsuki Mimai," where parents would send grilled mackerel to the families of their married daughters during the busy farming season. The "grilled mackerel soba" is a simple dish that combines grilled mackerel with soba noodles cooked together.
