About Yamacho Park (Hakodate)
You can enjoy a distant view of Hakodate Port, and in the evening, it's a park where you can admire the night scenery and lights.
Details
Yamamoto Park is located at the foothills of Mount Hakodate, offering a magnificent view of Hakodate Port. The park's history dates back to 1982 and features several cultural assets, including the former Hokkaido Government Office Hakodate Branch, the old Hokkaido Development Commission Hakodate Branch library, and the old Hakodate Ward Public Hall, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The Tsugaru clan's Kōno Masatomo built a box-shaped residence near the park, named "Hakodate," which is said to be the origin of the city's name.
At night, the buildings in the park are illuminated, adding a touch of romance to the area. Additionally, many historic buildings on the west side are also lit up, creating a beautiful landscape when viewed from the slope.
The park is lush and pleasant, making it an ideal spot to relax during sightseeing breaks. In early summer and autumn, when the foliage is vibrant with autumn colors, it becomes crowded with leisure tourists and local residents.
