About Yamamoto Park (Yokohama)

The park adorned with historical buildings allows you to personally experience the charm of Yokohama in the early 20th century.

Details

Yamashita Park, located in the Yamate area of Yokohama, embodies the harmonious beauty of nature, history, and modern facilities. Surrounded by lush greenery, it becomes a popular cherry blossom viewing spot from late March to early April each year, attracting many visitors who stop to admire the scenery. The park features beautiful water installations, providing a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere for everyone. Yamashita Park is home to numerous historical sites worth exploring, such as the "Gerrard's Waterhouse Ruins," remnants of a foreign settlement preserved from the late 19th to early 20th century, and the "Yamate 80-Bankan Ruins," the only remaining foreign residence in Yokohama before the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923). Additionally, the "Berrick Hall," "Erisman House," and "Yamate 234-Bankan" are all open to the public for free, serving as precious cultural heritage of Western architectural style, still telling the stories of that era. Furthermore, the park also features a municipal swimming pool (open from mid-July to early September) and a kyudo dojo for practicing traditional Japanese archery. Here, visitors can experience Yokohama's past and present in various ways. From the healing natural scenery and Yokohama's history to the architecture and leisure activities that blend Japanese and Western cultures, there is much to experience here. *The municipal outdoor swimming pool is open from mid-July to early September each year.
