About Yamashita Park
The seaside park facing Yokohama Port is one of Yokohama's top healing spots.
Details
Yamashita Park, built by the sea, is just a few steps away from Yokohama Chinatown. This seaside park was constructed using rubble from the Great Kanto Earthquake to reclaim land and opened to the public in March 1930.
Covering an area of 7.4 hectares, the park features spacious walking paths, flower beds, and fountains, making it a great place for Yokohama residents and visitors from both domestic and international locations to relax and unwind. The park offers excellent views, allowing visitors to enjoy the urban scenery of Yokohama, including Yokohama Port, the Yokohama Landmark Tower, and the high-rise buildings, both during the day and at night.
Within the park, there are many sculptures and monuments. Notable among them are the statue of the "Girl in Red Shoes," the protagonist of the famous children's song "Red Shoes," the "Indian Water Tower" donated by the Indian Association, and the "Guardian of Water" gifted by the city of San Diego, USA.
Yamashita Park is also a famous spot for viewing roses. The best times to appreciate the blooms are in spring and autumn, when around 1,900 rose bushes of approximately 160 varieties compete to showcase their beauty.
