About Yatsuhashi-an / Embroidery Hall

It offers hands-on experiences for making fresh Yatsuhashi and over 20 different experience courses, serving as a facility for experiencing Kyoto culture and Kyo-gashi (Kyoto sweets).

Details

Yatsuhashi-an & Embroidery Museum is located in the Ukyo Ward of Kyoto City, near the "Sakyo Ward Comprehensive Sports Park." It is a comprehensive experience facility where visitors can immerse themselves in Kyoto culture and the making of Kyoto sweets. In addition to the experience of making fresh Yatsuhashi and over 20 other experience courses, there is also a free-to-visit Kyoto embroidery art museum and an attached workshop for making fresh Yatsuhashi. Among the rich variety of experience courses, the most recommended is the "Making Fresh Yatsuhashi and Matcha Experience from Dough." Fresh Yatsuhashi is a representative confectionery of Kyoto, and the standard production process begins with hand-making the dough, followed by adding fillings of red bean paste, matcha, and roasted chestnut. After completion, participants can enjoy tasting their creation alongside the matcha they brewed themselves, providing a double satisfaction. For those who wish to delve deeper into the authentic handmade Yatsuhashi experience, the "Formal Lecture: The Ultimate Experience - Exquisite Red Bean Paste Fresh Yatsuhashi" is highly recommended. Not only the dough but also the red bean paste, soybean flour, cinnamon, and other ingredients are all handmade from scratch, allowing participants to feel like a confectionery master. Of course, dedicated staff will provide friendly and detailed guidance throughout the process, making it accessible for anyone, regardless of prior knowledge or experience. In addition to fresh Yatsuhashi, there are also unique handmade experience series in Kyoto, such as Wasanbon, Namagashi, Nama-fu Manju, tofu, and Shichimi. Participants can choose based on their preferences, itinerary, and budget, experiencing the true culture of Kyoto through all five senses.

Highlights

There are over 20 experience courses related to Kyoto culture. I recommend the classic course that starts with making fresh Yatsuhashi from dough. If you're looking for a formal approach, there are also in-depth lectures available for a more comprehensive understanding.
