About Yoro Falls (Yoro Park)

There are stories of filial piety passed down through generations, and it is a famous waterfall selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls.

Details

Located at the foot of Yōrō Mountain in the southwestern part of Gifu Prefecture, Yōrō Park is a vast area filled with natural beauty, featuring rich recreational facilities such as "Yōrō Tenmei Hantenchi" and "Children's Kingdom." The park's main attraction, situated deep within, is the "Yōrō Waterfall." With a height difference of about 30 meters and a width of approximately 4 meters, Yōrō Waterfall is a well-known waterfall selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. The clear and pure water cascades down the rocks, and its magnificent appearance was depicted in ukiyo-e by Katsushika Hokusai during the Edo period, making it widely recognized throughout history. Additionally, it gained fame from the story of "Yōrō Kōshi Monogatari," where a filial son draws water from the waterfall that turns into sake, allowing his ailing father to drink it and be cured without medicine. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the Yōrōbu entrance parking lot to the Yōrō Waterfall. The path leading to the waterfall is equipped with walking trails and seven bridges. In spring, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms and fresh greenery, while in autumn, the vibrant red leaves provide a different seasonal experience. Starting from the "Kikusui Spring," which is selected as one of Japan's top 100 famous waters, there are many other notable spots related to the filial son story around the waterfall that are also worth visiting.
