📖 Details
Yoshinogari Historical Park is a nationally designated special historic site by the Japanese government. The park covers a total area of 117 hectares and contains the largest Yayoi period moated settlement ruins in Japan, dating from the 5th century BC to around the 3rd century AD, known as the Yayoi period. The site was discovered through archaeological excavations that began in 1986.
The discovered Yoshinogari site bears a striking resemblance to the architectural style of the "Yamataikoku," mentioned in the ancient Chinese historical text "Records of the Three Kingdoms" (魏志倭人傳), which is the earliest record of ancient Japanese history and culture. Based on the artifacts unearthed and related research findings, a total of 98 structures have been reconstructed in the park, including the main ceremonial hall and pit dwellings from the Yayoi period.
The park also offers various experiential activities, such as trying primitive fire-starting methods (participation fee: 100 yen) and learning to make magatama (participation fee starting at 200 yen). The park's interior is quite expansive, and it is recommended to take the free shuttle bus provided within the park to visit the various attractions.
