About Yoshiyama Onsen
Located in the southeastern part of Yamagata Prefecture, it is one of the hot spring towns listed as one of the "Three Great Pleasure Districts of Ouu."
Details
Located in the southeastern part of Yamagata Prefecture, Yamanobe Onsen is one of the "Three Hidden Hot Springs of Oshu," along with "Yunohama Onsen" in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, and "Higashiyama Onsen" in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. The water quality is gentle, making it suitable for infants to enjoy the hot springs. Known as the "Beauty Bath" for its excellent heat retention and moisturizing effects, the onsen water is colorless and transparent, with a refreshing texture.
Yamanobe Onsen consists of two distinct hot spring areas. The "Shinyu, Yumachi, and Tokamachi area" was once the castle town of "Kaminoyama Castle (also known as Tsukioka Castle)," thriving during the Edo period as a post town on the Ushu Highway. Here, visitors can enjoy both soaking in the hot springs and strolling through the castle town and post town.
The other area, "Hayama, Kawasaki, and Takamatsu," is situated on a high plateau with a view of the Zao mountain range, making it an attractive spot for both soaking in the hot springs and enjoying the scenery.
In the hot spring town, there are not only five free foot baths available for a rest during walks, but also several affordable public bathhouses. Additionally, there is a "Kurort Health Walking Route," certified as a therapeutic area by the University of Munich in Germany, featuring five locations and eight routes, recommended for long-term stays to promote a healthy body.
