To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Dogo Onsen Honkan, a mechanical clock was installed in 1994 at the Hōjōen in front of the Dogo Onsen tram station. From 8 AM to 10 PM, it performs a musical show every hour (every 30 minutes on weekends, national holidays, and during March, April, August, November, Golden Week, and the New Year period) to warmly welcome travelers visiting Dogo Onsen. The appearance of the mechanical clock is modeled after the "Zenshōkaku," the drum tower at the top of the Dogo Onsen Honkan. At the appointed time, characters from Natsume Sōseki's novel "Shōnen," set against the backdrop of Matsuyama, appear one after another to the music in the style of Dogo Onsen. Additionally, the mechanical clock lights up at night, showcasing a charm that is completely different from the daytime. Next to the mechanical clock, there is also a foot bath at Dogo Onsen, so it's a great opportunity to enjoy soaking your feet as well.

The mechanical clock was established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Dogo Onsen Main Building. It stands in the Hōjōen garden in front of Dogo Onsen Station, welcoming travelers. The clock performs from 8 AM to 10 PM (every 30 minutes on weekends and public holidays, as well as in March, April, August, November, during Golden Week, and at the end of the year), with a full performance every hour. Characters from the novel "Shōta" appear one after another to the music in the style of Dogo Onsen. There is also a foot bath nearby at Dogo Onsen, so it’s worth a visit.
