SENDAI Light Symphony was initiated in 1986, based on the concepts of "making winter Sendai shine brighter" and "transforming the Forest City into a City of Light." The event takes place on Jozenji Street, a significant thoroughfare in the Forest City, where dazzling lights are illuminated on the zelkova trees. It creates a dreamlike winter world in Sendai, beloved by both citizens and tourists. Each year, the event is held with a specific theme, running from early December until the end of the year. A total of 115 zelkova trees are adorned with up to 450,000 LED lights, showcasing a magnificent and dazzling world of light. During the lighting ceremony, small wooden huts are set up in Kotodai Park and Citizen's Square, hosting a Christmas market and exciting street performances. In addition to the enchanting decorations, various fun activities are also a major feature of the SENDAI Light Symphony.
