The Akechidaira Observatory is the most popular viewpoint in the Nikko area, offering a view of both Lake Chūzenji and Kegon Falls. From the eastern side of the observatory, you can also see the dramatic cliffs that form the Kegon Rock, as well as the rolling mountains in the distance. Taking the aerial cable car from Akechidaira, it only takes 3 minutes to reach the observatory, which is located at an altitude of 1,373 meters. This spot is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage, so many travelers choose to visit in the fall.

Take the Tobu Bus from JR Nikko Station or Tobu Nikko Station towards "Yumoto Onsen" or "Chuzenji Onsen." After about 40 minutes, get off at "Akechidaira." Then, take the Akechidaira Cable Car, which will take you to the Akechidaira Observation Deck in about 3 minutes.
