Details
Aoyama Park is located near the Rinzai Zen Temple, Hōgwan-ji (Aoyama Hansō), in the Obina Meiko area, and many visitors stop by before or after their worship. This place is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, with about a thousand Somei Yoshino cherry trees blooming in spring. The view from the "Dream Floating Bridge," which spans the central pond in the park, is truly breathtaking. At night, when the lights are illuminated, the reflection of the cherry blossoms on the pond creates a dreamlike beauty. The three-story pagoda of Hōgwan-ji, standing above the cherry blossoms, is also lit up at night, creating a spectacular scene alongside the cherry blossoms.
In addition to cherry blossoms, there are up to 3,000 hydrangeas in early summer and autumn leaves in the fall, making the landscape created by seasonal flowers and plants worth seeing. The park features the "Aoyama Flower Street," which leads to the Aoyama Highlands, a 3-kilometer road filled with seasonal flowers and wild grasses. It is also the starting point for the hiking trail to the summit of Mt. Fumaku (563 meters), which marks the border between Shizuoka Prefecture and Aichi Prefecture, making it a great spot to enjoy outdoor activities. Many hikers come here on weekends.
