About Aquarium ✕ Art átoa

A new type of theater aquarium that combines an aquarium with art.

Details

In 2021, the "Kobe Port Museum," a complex cultural facility located in the Kobe Bay area, opened its urban aquarium. This is a new type of theater-style aquarium featuring 60 tanks housing 100 species and 3,000 individual creatures, along with approximately 50 pieces of stage art and digital artworks. Inside the museum, the tanks are themed and combined with various effects and art, creating a dreamy and unique space. This includes fine mist and laser lights cascading from the ceiling onto Japan's largest spherical tank, "PLANETS - Miraculous Planets." In the area inspired by a Japanese garden, "MIYABI - Between Harmony and Light," visitors can walk above a glass tank filled with koi swimming gracefully. Photography is allowed throughout the facility, enabling guests to capture stunning photos and videos that cannot be taken elsewhere (flash photography and "live streaming" of the creatures are prohibited). The open outdoor exhibition floor features feeding demonstrations for otters and penguins, as well as popular activities like feeding experiences with giant tortoises and giant fish. After visiting the aquarium, guests can enjoy food and desserts shaped like the aquarium's animals at "átoa café," or browse for original merchandise at the aquarium shop.
