📖 Details
Asahikawa City is one of Japan's leading producers of wooden furniture. The "Asahikawa Design Center" features around 30 permanent showrooms belonging to manufacturers affiliated with the Asahikawa Furniture Industry Cooperative, showcasing and selling Asahikawa's furniture and various wooden crafts.
Rather than simply being a furniture store, the Asahikawa Design Center feels more like an art museum. The high design quality and variety of wooden furniture evoke admiration and emotion for the traditional woodworking skills. In addition to traditional furniture meticulously crafted from local timber, there are also diverse designs that have stood out in international furniture design competitions, making the array of products a visual delight. Various designed furniture and wooden crafts can be viewed and touched before making a purchase.
The center also features a café where you can enjoy authentic Taiwanese cuisine during lunch hours, along with a menu of Chinese tea and Taiwanese Kung Fu tea, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy tea after shopping. The interior decor is a collaborative effort between young furniture designers and local residents, creating a top-notch fashionable space in Asahikawa City. Visiting during afternoon tea time to enjoy a moment of tranquility is highly recommended.
