📖 Details
The northernmost zoo in Japan, "Asahikawa City Asahiyama Zoo," is a popular zoo known for creating comfortable spaces based on the ecology of animals and for its "action exhibits" that showcase natural animal behaviors.
From the "Penguin House," where penguins swim freely in an underwater tunnel, to the "Seal House," where seals dart up and down in a cylindrical display tank, and the "Polar Bear House," where visitors can see polar bears diving in a pool, to the "Orangutan House," where orangutans walk high up in a 17-meter tower, as well as the "Hippo House," where you can observe hippos swimming directly below the viewing tank, the zoo offers a chance to see a variety of animals living lively and carefree lives.
The zoo also hosts "feeding shows," where animals are fed while their behaviors are explained, and "So That's How It Works Tours," which provide detailed introductions to animal characteristics. During certain seasons, there is a "Night Zoo" that allows visitors to see animals at night and observe their behaviors, which are usually not visible during the day and are very popular with tourists. Additionally, activities unique to Hokkaido, such as the "Penguin Walk" held during the winter when snow accumulates, are also featured attractions.
